Coleraine to Londonderry Track Safety Improvement Works

Tender description

The Coleraine to Londonderry railway line is situated in the North-western region of Northern Ireland. It is a rural line, which for long stretches closely follows the coast line. It is proposed to construct Continuously Welded Rail on an 18.5 mile long section of this route this route from the 69.5Mile Post to the 88 Mile Post. As an important part of this project Translink intends to have trail pits carried out at 200metre centres to determine the underlying soil/formation conditions, along the two sections which will be relayed. The sampling for the ground investigations will largely be obtained by excavating trial pits to a maximum depth of 1 metre below the existing sleepers. Translink estimates that between 110 and 125 trial pits will be excavated. Some Standard Penetration Tests and some boreholes will be carried out on site where considered applicable. The aim of this tender exercise is to appoint suitably qualified Economic Operator(s) to provide Geotechnical Investigation Works. Respondents to this PQQ will be shortlisted and then those shortlisted will be invited to tender for the Geotechnical Investigation Works. Translink intends to issue tenders during November 2011 and to award a contract to the successful tenderer in December 2011.
