Tender description

The Coleraine to Londonderry Relay project will upgrade approximately 13 miles of the route. The project is in two distinct sections along the railway corridor, these being between Coleraine Station (61.75MP) and Castlerock (67.5MP) and between Eglinton (88MP) and Londonderry Station (95.25MP). The site is mainly contained within the trackside perimeter fencing and sea defences but may require to be extended beyond the current boundaries to facilitate accommodation works, site access and contractors' compounds. Some elements of material supply may be provided by the Client eg rails, sleepers, etc. The project is to be delivered between April 2012 and March 2013 with a blockade of the line in force for the period between July 2012 and March 2013. The contract will be carried out in parallel with track safety improvement works which will be implemented along the same route (which will be between Castlerock and Eglinton). This project is one part of the planned phased renewals of this railway line. The works will be carried out in a safety critical environment and will include (but not exclusively): • Permanent Way renewals • Excavation and replacement of fill and ballast • Drainage renewal • Signalling and Telecomms ducted route installation • Signalling and Telecomms cabled route installation • Refurbishment of the Bann Bridge at Coleraine • Bridge replacement and bridge refurbishment works • Signalling and telecommunications renewal/refurbishment • Switch and crossing replacement. The project will be let as a Design and Build Contract.
