The Coleraine to Derry~Londonderry Renewals Project Phase 2 will renew the Signalling & Telecomms asset along this 33 ½ mile long railway line; it will provide a new passing loop at Bellarena and it will convert the existing passing loop at Castlerock to plain line track. The works will be carried out under three separate procurement exercises. The first procurement exercise is for a Design Engineer for the Signalling and Telecoms for GRIP Stages 1 to 4 inclusive. That is the subject of a separate on-going Procurement Process. That procurement process commenced in July 2013. The second procurement exercise is for a Civils and Permanent Way Design & Build Contractor. The third procurement process is for a Signalling & Telecomms Contractor for the delivery of GRIP Stages 5 to 8 inclusive. The main scope items of the Civils and Permanent Way Design & Build Contract are:- • The provision of a new passing loop near Bellarena Station on the Coleraine to Derry~Londonderry Railway Line. • The provision of two new platforms at the new Bellarena Passing Loop to serve as Bellarena Station. • Road works on the A2 Seacoast Road as the existing level crossing will be changed from an Automatic Half Barrier crossing to a Full Barrier CCTV Monitored Crossing. • Renewal of approximately a 1 mile section of railway track local to Bellarena. • Signalling and Telecomms ducted route provision over a 1 mile section local to Bellarena. • Drainage work local to Bellarena. • Closure of a user worked crossing at the site of the new passing loop and construction of a new farm access in-lieu of the closed user worked crossing. • A platform extension on the Up side Platform at Castlerock Station. • The removal of the existing loop at Castlerock Station and the construction of plain line track through Castlerock Station. The project will be let as a Design and Build Contract. The project is to be delivered between February 2014 and March 2015.
