Tender description
The service shall comprise primarily of the calibration, certification, inspection, testing (safety testing and authorised repair) of IMTE (Inspection of Measuring and Test Equipment). This includes the following key requirements: • Calibration to fixed national standards within an acceptable range. • Catalogued records of calibration carried out, accessible by NR. • Logistics management for collection and return of equipment. The scope of this sourcing exercise is to cover calibration of inspection, measuring, testing equipment, which encompasses: 1. Mechanical equipment 2. Electrical equipment 3. Telecoms test equipment 4. Oxygas testing 5. URFDOR (ultrasonic rail flaw detection) 6. Additional specialist items that need to be covered by separate arrangements with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Calibration is defined as measuring, testing, adjusting and returning equipment to its corresponding "true" value of parameters, thus confirming that the equipment is fit for purpose. The equipment includes such items as crimping tools, gauges, micrometers, torque wrenches, fluke measuring devices, meggers, magnets and various measuring devices. The service comprises calibration, certification, inspection, authorised repair and testing of items that Network Rail uses for the maintenance of its railway infrastructure. The specialist calibration contractors undertake formal checks of items against manufacturers’ original settings and specifications as defined by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) standards for certified laboratory and equipment, with full traceability to such National Standards that ensures that the measurements taken and recorded on each item are within the specified tolerances. If calibration errors and results show tolerances outside the acceptable range, the contractors carry out adjustments (where possible) and bring back in line within the specified tolerances.
