Tender description
The Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) route between Knockmore (south of Lisburn) and Bell’s Row Crossing at Lurgan is twin track and is situated on the Belfast to Dublin Railway Line. It is a length of approximately 11 miles from MP104.00 at Knockmore Station (dis-used) to just beyond Bell’s Row Level Crossing at MP93.25. The railway runs through rural areas for the majority of this route and passes through urban areas at either ends at Knockmore and Lurgan, however between these two points the railway passes over 6nr User Worked Crossings and 6nr Level Crossings. Moira station is situated at the approximate mid point of the section of track. Northern Ireland Railways Infrastructure Division are proposing a programme of works utilising track ballast rehabilitation methodologies. The Primary objective of the Track Ballast Rehabilitation Programme will be to return to, and maintain the operational line speed on the network to the design speed as a result of rehabilitated permanent way ballast. The aim of this tender exercise is to appoint an Economic Operator to undertake a Topographical Survey of the track, up to 3m either side of the rails. In addition, a LIDAR survey of the railway corridor will be carried out to cover the embankments and cuttings out to the railway boundary. The LIDAR survey does not form part of this scope. The key project objective is to provide a topographic survey, in 2d and 3d format, of the track and all railways infrastructure within 3m of the rails to enable a track alignment design to be undertaken. The contract period is approximately 2 months starting in November 2015
