Ballymoney NIR Station Footbridge Replacement

Tender description

This project is for the construction of a footbridge over the railway at Ballymoney Railway Station. Ballymoney Railway Station was built in the late 1800’s and is located on the Belfast to Londonderry Line. The original footbridge at Ballymoney Railway Station, which crossed the twin track, was closed to the public due to concerns regarding its structural integrity in 2001. Prior to its closure a temporary scaffolding type structure was erected to allow passengers to continue to cross between the Up and Down line platforms safely. In parallel with Translink’s interests in constructing a permanent bridge at Ballymoney Railway Station, Ballymoney Borough Council and Sustrans have been working to develop a scheme which will create a promenade from the leisure centre on the south side of town to the town centre, making use of the Riverside Park green corridor. In order to complete this route they also require a new bridge be constructed over the railway. The project was granted planning permission on the 14 October 2010 and it envisaged that the bridge construction will start in May 2011 and be completed by September 2011. The aim of this exercise is to appoint one suitably qualified contractor to carry out this work. Closing Date 1500 hours on 21st December 2010.
