Tender description
We have around 1000 people in Area operations field teams who are organised within 14 areas. These people play a vital role in: • providing 24/7 response to flooding and pollution incidents; • maintaining our flood defence structures; • carrying out minor construction work; Our teams work out of depots in every English county, from near the Scottish border to the tip of Cornwall. The Area names document in SPEC A is a map of all areas requiring coverage through this framework. SPEC B provides a breakdown of our depots and area offices which are potential training delivery locations. Our training programme carries seasonal constraints primarily due to the environment. As a provider of this training you are expected to know these constraints and identify peaks in the various courses and meet the demand we require. The nature of our work can also place constraints on availability for training delivery as we respond to flooding and carry out our incident management role. This may mean on occasion we need to move training dates; we need our suppliers to understand our role is crucial to protecting the country. Every pound we spend is from the public purse and is invested in protecting and maintaining the environment. The purpose of this contract is to have a workforce that is: • Competent, safe and fully trained to a professional standard. • trained to a consistent standard to support the flexibility we need to move resources around the country for incident response We currently use Lantra and other accreditation bodies for basic training standards. The majority of training required through this framework relates to the operation of large plant and machinery; chainsaws and vegetation control. We have our own plant and equipment, supplemented by a hire contract, which we can use to provide for training at our sites and depots. We also require the training provider to have access to their own training sites, plant and equipment when we’re unable to provide th
