Accreditation for the Certificate of Competence for Prison Custody Officers

NIPS require a Service Provider to accredit the NIPS training programme for Custody Prison Officers (Participants). Each individual participant will be assessed by NIPS as part of the training programme using the course criteria as determined by NIPS. The Service Provider will then be required to carry out an independent sample audit on the NIPS assessment of the individual participants. The purpose of this audit is to provide professional recognition of the NIPS participant assessment through a formal external Accreditation process. The participant’s output will be measured by NIPS against the agreed criteria using the following methods: • Written tests; • Practical assessments; • Assignments; and • Portfolio of Learning The anticipated number of officers to go through the accredited course is 280 new recruits and 280 transfers from existing roles, as detailed in above but the service provider will be required to offer flexibility to make provision for greater numbers as required subject to a further intake for direct recruits or transfers for existing grades.
