Tender description
Network Rail has identified Geofencing technology as a potential addition to the Safe System of Work (SSoW), to improve the safety of trackside working. Maintenance and construction personnel working trackside is one of the highest risk environments across the Network Rail estate. The activities conducted by these workers are complex and require significant attention, and many near misses occur when workers lose situational awareness of their surroundings and accidentally stray outside of safe areas. In light of this, Network Rail are running the “Geofencing Track Worker Warning System Design Contest” to develop, explore and trial a selection of proposed design solutions that would help to address this current challenge. The objective is to create a real-time monitoring system that could identify if trackside workers accidentally move into unsafe zones on a work site, and to alert users when this occurs via a wearable device. Network Rail are inviting applicants to participate in the Design Contest by submitting a design or plan which addresses this challenge. Following the completion of Design Contest, Network Rail will select Design Contest winners, these winners will be invited to participate in a phase of negotiations with Network Rail which if successful may result in the award of a service contract to take part in the Geofencing Track Worker Warning System trial . For further information on the challenge requirement and how to complete a Design Contest submission, please review the documents attached below. Submissions to the Geofencing Track Worker Warning System Design Contest Design Contest must be submitted via the BravoNR portal. Therefore, any participant wanting to submit a design proposal must have a registered BravoNR account (if they are not already registered).
