Tender description

The Battle of Britain Bunker was constructed in 1938 as the underground operations room replacing a ground level facility. In 1940 it was the nerve centre for directing the fighter protection over London and the Southeast. The Bunker was built on two levels, and remains largely unchanged, it contains its original air filtration system provided by two independent plant rooms, mains and standby power supplies, together with telephone exchanges and offices. It was closed for operational use in 1958. The bunker is now a museum. Phase 2 Water mitigation is part of an ongoing programme of works being carried-out at the Bunker complex. This phase consists of drainage, repairs and internal works. Drainage works: The works is for a series of land drains and Swales across the site to intercept water away from the complex. And the creation of a new below ground attenuation tank to mitigate off-site drainage along with decommissioning of an attenuation pond, and all associated works. Repairs works: The repair work is to three leaking air shafts that involves deep excavation and cutting through two burster courses, asphalt repairs and formation of a concrete outer sleeve. Other works are to be carried-out as specified. Internal works: Internal works are to consist of plant room and ventilation ductwork repairs, electrical upgrade, and water management improvements. Programme Construction works: End January 2023 – End August 2023
