Tender description
The BBC has protocols in place for high risk work and deployments. The Corporation broadly defines high risk as holding a significantly higher than normal risk of death or serious injury as a result of working in a given place or situation. This includes deployments to hostile environments (fragile countries / war zones / conflicts, places with violent disorder or civil unrest etc), high risk events (natural disasters, pandemic diseases, post tsunami or covering events such as terrorist incidents etc), and high risk activity (undercover work, investigations and surveillance etc). The BBC High Risk Team is responsible for categorising countries / activities / events as hostile environments or high risk. Anyone deploying on such an assignment will be required to have undergone appropriate training to be able to deploy and work as safely as possible. This applies to all divisions of the BBC including both Public Service and BBC Studios, which includes News & Current Affairs, World Service, BBC Monitoring, BBC Media Action and BBC Studios, around the world as required. It includes engineers, camera people, reporters, producers, freelancers, all sub-contractors and consultants engaged by the BBC and therefore subject to BBC duty of care. Individuals assigned to work in Hostile Environments must have completed the BBC Hostile Environment & First Aid (HEFAT) Training course.
