Summary of the work Python tooling development work for a suite of migration tooling utilities. Specialist role Developer Expected Contract Length 5 months Latest start date Monday 7 November 2022 Maximum Day Rate Up to £600 per day + VAT. Standard 8 hour working day, includes expenses to base location agreed with DWP. This role is Inside IR35. Who Speclialist Work With The resource will work with the existing DWP BPS Delivery Team. This team has a Lead Technical Delivery Manager, Design Lead, Technical Architect and Javascript, Python and COBOL Developers. What Specialists Work On Python developer responsible for the back-end tooling development work for the BPS Migration Service, specifically the generators that generate metadata for the Configurator utility to use and code from metadata that the Configurator utility has generated. The Configurator allows end consumers to select data items from screens, database or files within legacy applications for migration onto replacement systems (for example the 'Get Your State Pension' service). Will also provide support, technical guidance and help to implement development best practices. This will include coaching, mentoring and supporting team members. Skills & Experience • Excellent Python skills. • Experience of Python tooling development. • Experience of processing XML in Python. • Experience of processing JSON in Python. • Experience of designing tooling that reads and generates metadata. • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. • Experience of Agile working practices. • 2 years experience in this area. Nice to Haves • Experience of COBOL. • Experience of SQL. Work Location North East - Longbenton, Newcastle OR North West - Peel Park, Blackpool. Working Arrangments Specialist will work 5 working days per week with a hybrid working arrangement incorporating remote and office working. Attendance on site 40% of the specialist's time is a mandatory requirement. Security Clearance All suppliers must be SC Government cleared and On-Shore. Additional T&Cs It is essential that the Department (DWP) holds copies of and rights to all source code developed and accompanying intellectual property rights to the code to develop further or make changes as it sees fit. No. Due to the length of time it takes to get SC (approximately 12 weeks) we need someone who already has SC sponsored by a Govt Department. If the SC is still current and they have been in a role requiring it in the last 12 months, we can transfer it across.
