NTS Beinn Ghlas Fencing Tender, Ben Lawers

Tender description

The Trust is seeking tenders for the installation of a new build section (approx 2.3km) of red deer proof electric fence with out lying electric wire and several sections of upgrade fencing to existing dykes and stock fences, totalling approx 2.25km, as part of a project funded through NatureScots 'Nature Restoration fund'. As the site is fairly inaccessible and heavily designated (inc NNR, SSSI and SAC), an air lift will be required for most materials and minimal use of vehicles will be necessary Ben Lawers NNR is a large estate comprising the south sides of the Lawers and Tarmachan mountain ranges. The land is predominantly high ground with the head dyke forming the lower, southern boundary although the in-bye ground of two of the adjoining farms are also included in the estate boundary. Grazing rights on the Ben Lawers side of the property are held by some of the adjacent farms and sheep grazing is the predominant form of land use here. On the Tarmachan (Morenish) no grazing constraints exist and the Trust have been undergoing several staged projects to expand mountain woodland within enclosure fencing for over 20 years. The fence currently encloses approx. 800ha of hill ground for this purpose. The fencing relating to this ITT will absorb approx. 350ha of additional ground into this enclosure.
