Recreate Shandon have secured funding from Enterprise Ireland under the Regional Enterprise Innovation Scoping Scheme 2022 (REISS) to undertake a feasibility Study to develop the iconic and historic Shandon Buttermarket in Cork into a Tech and Innovation Hub. The landmark Butter Exchange building on Cork’s northside, which has lain vacant for well over a decade has the potential to bring new economic activity to this area of Cork’s inner city. Recreate Shandon clg has been established to pursue this project in collaboration with a number of partner organisations. Recreate Shandon intends to redevelop the building as an enterprise centre. The previous Feasibility Study prepared for the company by Grant Thornton, which considered a number of options for the building, determined that it should be developed as an enterprise centre to support the innovation and enterprise ecosystem in Cork and the region. This brief is for the determining and demonstration of the economic value of the provision of an innovation and Tech Hub at the Shandon Butter exchange and financial viability of the project through a robust business plan to indicate long term self sustainability of the proposal. It will also be the evidence base to support a further application to Enterprise Ireland (EI) Regional Enterprise development Fund (REDF) later this year for the physical regeneration of the Buttermarket and the Support services and management of the Hub.
