URBACT is a European exchange and learning programme that promotes integrated sustainable urban development. The URBACT programme focuses on Action Planning Networks, which allow groups of cities to work together to find solutions to common urban challenges. Each network is led by a Lead Partner city and is guided by an URBACT-approved Lead Expert. This project is adopting a participatory approach to identifying challenges and solutions in relation to greenspace provision and design in Limerick. A stakeholder group called an URBACT local group (ULG) has been formed with representatives from the social, economic and environmental sectors. A number of greenspaces have been identified in Limerick City which are currently under used, but which have the potential to provide significant amenity value for local residents and community groups. These range from established parks to passive residential greenspace and include areas in Ballynanty. The project involves landscaping works at 2no. sites in Ballynanty, works include but not limited to: preparation, cultivation of landscape areas. supply and install timber edging, tarmac footpath, seating, signage & stroking stones. Supply & spreading of topsoil & mulch. Supply & planting of trees, shrubs, perennials, groundcovers & bulbs. Sowing grassland and wildflower meadows. Maintenance.
