Tender description

It is foreseen that the development of the GHG monitoring programme will involve the appointment of an environmental engineer who is responsible for the overall implementation of the project: The specific tasks are set out below and are required in order to meet the objectives set out above and help inform the reporting of baseline conditions and restoration impacts from the WAN project. The tasks to be undertaken are: 1. Design an appropriate GHG and environmental monitoring observation network across selected areas of blanket bog and wet heath. Site selection will be done by ecologists from WAN and NPWS in collaboration with the appointed contractor and the additional contractor appointed to monitor hydrology and water-chemistry. The number of collars will be based on what is practical and feasible in the timeframe and available budget. 2. Design appropriate boardwalks and platforms, where necessary, for site access. 3. Instrument study areas with piezometers, if practical, for water level measurement and soil temperature loggers. WAN will provide funding for environmental monitoring sensors and equipment. A weather station with PAR will be situated at the EC tower. 4. Record and measure vegetation characteristics in each on the micro-topography sub-plots, including vegetation height, soil temperature and depth to water table. 5. Deploy the closed static chamber method for CO2 and CH4 measurement and install suitable collars at selected locations. Study sites must be connected and supported by platforms and boardwalks. Funds for collar and boardwalk infrastructure will be provided by NPWS. 6. Carry out regular CO2 and CH4 measurements at each collar location over the course of field monitoring campaign. Using this data, develop empirical models for gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (Reco) and estimate the NEE for each observed habitat. 7.
