Tender description
Over the past 5 years Cefas and other UK (United Kingdom) partners have been working with governments, academia, and NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) in Official Development Assistance (ODA) countries to develop improved capacity in environmental protection, aquatic animal health, Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR), food safety and security, collectively under the banner of One Health. Cefas are now coordinating a UK ODA research and development project that aims to develop a risk analysis tool that places hazard identification and control at the heart of sustainable food system design. For the first time, it will connect disparate food sectors on land and water to take a holistic view of the whole food system, moving to climate-resilient, safer, healthier, and more sustainable global nutrition. The project seeks to bring together methods focussed on food sector hazards with methods focussed on environmental and climate change assessment. Cefas require the successful Bidder to produce a review of project concept and attend an in-country workshop (Pretoria, South Africa, location and date to be confirmed) to define the project social science Road Map and provide a report on how to address the social science questions this project could pose. In this context, we consider social science to include (not necessarily limited to) aspects of community, livelihoods, trading systems, welfare, equity, gender, life-stage, access to nutrition and governance. i. Review the current project concept and produce a short-written brief on the social science topics the project should look to address, to include initial indications of which topics are likely to be a priority. ii. Attend a workshop in South Africa (location and dates to be confirmed although likely early November 2022). Remote attendance may be considered if in-person attendance is not possible. iii. Produce a social science Road Map report based on the outcomes of the workshop.
