CNC Turning Centre

Tender description

The Faculty of Engineering on the Carlow Campus has identified a need for an advanced CNC turning centre, which will be utilised by the Department Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. The Department has identified this as a requirement to deliver and support our curriculum and other programmes using CNC technology. A compact footprint machine is required due to space constraints, we require a turning centre with y axis capabilities, the controller is to be industry standard and of a conversational type. This equipment will be a technology demonstrator, and as such will be used to engage with industry, our learners at undergraduate level will interface directly with this technology hence the need for a conversational type of controller. The equipment will need to be robust yet compact and must have the ability to machine both hard and soft metals whilst maintaining tight tolerances. Our postgraduate learners will use this equipment to produce prototypes for their research projects, the turning centre will need to be able to produce a wide variety of complex parts from the conversations side of the controller and from our CAM system. The equipment tender is instrumental to deliver our new curriculum, and our industrial let programmes. This equipment will be located in a CNC Laboratory located at SETU’s Kilkenny road Campus.
