Circular Saw and Diamond Wire Cutting Trials – RACE/UKAEA

Tender description

UKAEA is researching remote cold cutting nuclear decommissioning size reduction technologies and has performed diamond wire saw (DWS) cutting trials on a specific, composite material component. UKAEA wants to gain additional information on the use of DWS technology, but also to investigate a second cold cutting technology - a circular saw (CS). UKAEA will provide targets to be cut using Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) DWS and CS machines. UKAEA will provide targets to be cut using Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) DWS and CS machines. The key points are: • The Contractor is to advise on the design (equipment, parameters) of the cutting trials • The Contractor is to provide all equipment and the facility for the trial • The Contractor is to conduct cutting trials and monitor various parameters (e.g., temperature) • The Contractor is to report on the trial and advise on Client’s final cutting system design • Cutting Targets (Targets) will be defined by UKAEA Through this process we are looking to open up engagement with suppliers to ensure there is sufficient production capability and capacity to meet project timelines and design requirements.
