Proposed Fishery Harbour Expansion Project at An Daingean Fishery Harbour Centre, Co. Kerry

Tender description

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) wish to investigate options relating to the expansion of An Daingean Fishery Harbour Centre, Co. Kerry arising from increased fishery related traffic. The objective of the project is to provide adequate berthing facilities at the appropriate draft to meet the future needs of the fleet. Examples of options include deepening and strengthening the east side of the main pier in the harbour or providing new berthing facilities between the rubble mounds on the eastern side of the harbour. The deepening of the navigable channel from 3.1m below Chart Datum to 5.1m below Chart Datum shall also be studied as part of this project. However, DAFM wish to study and fully appraise all potential options to facilitate future expansion of the FHC with respect to increased fishing traffic. Berthing drafts of minimum 6m below Chart Datum are required for large fishing vessels as part of any future expansion works. DAFM are fully committed to ensuring value for money on all of our public works contracts by complying with the Public Spending Code and delivering our projects in accordance with the Capital Works Management Framework. This commission is for a consultancy firm with expertise in civil and marine engineering with appropriate specialists, where necessary, to undertake the initial appraisal stage in the project life cycle. This includes the preparation of a Preliminary Project Brief, Preliminary Report, Developed Project Brief and, if necessary, a Strategic Assessment Report, if the estimated cost of achieving the objectives is likely to exceed 10 million.
