Kingsway Academy Adaptions For Clare Mount and Foxfield schools

Adapt the existing Kingsway Academy school to meet needs for SEN use, this involves many classroom adaptations and specialist installations both internally and externally. This year there has been a substantial increase in the call from Education for additional SEN places (upward of 300+) and normal tender procurement routes will cause delay for expected occupation dates. Due to the lead time provided by Education it is impossible to create tender documents in time for processing through the normal tender arrangement and within the timelines required and have the school building ready and prepared for a September intake. Wirral's SOR (Schedule of Rates) contractors are unable to carry out the works due to other urgent SEN demands placed upon them and they have confirmed that they do not have the resources available. The only way to achieve this is to breakdown the works into phases and carry out the essential works under a direct order to one of Wirral's competent main contractors. A concept meeting has taken place with 'Lyjon Construction' who are a reliable and proven winner of Wirral tenders and have proved to be most help for best value, they have considered the work required and have confirmed they are willing and able to take on the rather difficult task for a Phase 1A completion for the September intake and to look at other phases following this fist phase appraisal. Carrying out Phase 1A will enable Clare Mount school to occupy a portion of the school and concentrate on the SEN functions. Lyjon are currently carrying out a budget analysis along with Wirral's own QS and we expect this analysis to be ready within 2 weeks. We expect Phase 1A element of the works to be in excess of 100k. Phases 1B, 1C & 2 will be costed immediately following the analysis of Phase 1A and reported.
