Tender description
Armagh Observatory and Planetarium (AOP) is set within a 13 acre Estate which includes an Astropark consisting of a scale model of the Solar System, a hypercube designed to illustrate the concept of logarithmic scale and a ‘Hill of Infinity’ where each ten steps represents a distance to the power of ten times greater than the last. Taken together the visitor goes on a journey from the Sun, past the stars and galaxies and finishing with the Big Bang and the beginning of the Universe. Beyond this a stone circle calendar uses the same principle that our ancestors used, long before the invention of clock for keeping time. Currently only visitors who book a guided tour of the Astropark can truly appreciate its impact. The purpose of this project is to provide a technology solution to guide visitors around the existing experience and increase its appeal. Following recent investment within the Planetarium, the purpose of this project seeks to enhance an already available asset, extending the themes of 'Look Up, Look Out, Look Beyond' used within the Planetarium. In addition to a self-led tour of the solar system and universe installations, the theme’ Look Around’ will encourage visitors to appreciate the natural beauty around them, the importance of green spaces in the fight against climate change and planet Earth's place in the cosmos. The experience must also feature a new family orientated space themed trail with an ECO message using a mix of Augmented Reality (AR) and physical installations incorporated within a children’s workbook activity pack. Please see document entitled “ID 4208843 – Specification Schedule” for full details of this requirement.
