FS900246 Review of allergen analytical testing methodologies -measurement parameters and sensitivity of methods

Tender description

Applicants are invited to submit tenders to carry out a desk-based literature review of the analytical methodologies available for allergen testing, limitations of the methods, cost effectiveness, reporting units and analytical threshold levels for different matrices. The requirements have been outlined below in detail. The applicant should provide a summary table as part of the literature review. Requirements: • Details of testing methods available for each 14 regulated allergens, including measurement parameters, sensitivity (LOD and LOQ), selectivity, range, reporting unit of method (including whether qualitative or quantitative) and measurement uncertainty. • Quality assurance information for each analytical method including validation data and standardisation (BSI, CEN, ISO AOAC etc.) • Any limitations of methods and ways to mitigate the issues, including cross-reactivity. It is important to address ways to reduce any limitations, for example in cross reactivity would more than one method suffice to obtain accurate allergen information (see testing protocol). • Coverage of methods for different matrices and identify gaps not covered by methods. • Information on what is targeted for detection (food, protein, allergenic protein, DNA etc). • Reference materials are important in harmonising measurements of allergens. Please discuss the availability of reference materials. Are these suitable for the identified methods? • Discuss potential for conversion of units between different testing methods as a possibility to attain standardised approach. • Estimate cost of each test and breakdown of costs/ benefit in implementing the different methods/kits when considering regulated allergen testing in laboratories (as applicable).
