NTS Glen Geldie - Riparian Woodland Creation Project Mar Lodge Estate

The National Trust for Scotland Mar Lodge Estate is delivering an ambitious project aiming to restore the upper reaches of the Geldie Burn, a major tributary of the River Dee, by establishing new native woodland in a series of deer fenced compartments. The site is within the River Dee Special Area of Conservation, Mar Lodge Estate National Nature Reserve, Cairngorms Massif Special Protection Area, Cairngorms Mountains National Scenic Area and Cairngorms National Park and has a number of site sensitivities. The new native riparian woodland will comprise 6 planted compartments which form part of a Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS). All woodland compartments will be protected by deer fencing and rabbit netting, enclosing ~125ha of ground. The total area of woodland to be established withing these compartments is ~81ha, the remainder being open ground.
