Orkney LiDAR Surveys 2022

Tender description

Orkney Islands Council intends to procure LiDAR surveys of the Orkney coastline to obtain 3d point cloud data and produce a Digital Terrain Model (DTM). This work will be used to inform the development of an Orkney wide Shoreline Management Plan which will be used to identify actions to be delivered under the next cycle of the Local Flood Risk Management Plan. It is anticipated that approx. 80% of the entire Orkney coastline will require to be surveyed (or approx. 820 sq.km) and that 10-15% of this will be blue/green LiDAR to obtain near-shore bathymetric data in areas most vulnerable. The specification for surveys is expected to follow recent Scottish Government and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency LiDAR surveys commissioned as part of the Scottish Public Sector LiDAR programme.
