Technical University of The Shannon TUS’-Midwest, formerly known as Limerick Institute of Technology has secured funding to procure a Supercritical Fluid Extractor (SFE), a fully automated extraction system for lipophilic to moderately hydrophilic compounds. Bulk samples of plant material, microbial biomass, food, etc., are subjected to the extraction of bio-substances using supercritical CO2 in 10ml extraction vessels. Eight samples can be processed at a time or extraction. Method development conducted through the variation of CO2 pressure and temperature in each of the eight vessels. The SFE should include: eight-way automated extraction system with CO2 pump – 600bar; co-solvent pump; pre-heater and oven; automatic valving extraction and collection system; automatic back pressure regulator; vaporiser; eight collection bottles; split-valve and diverter System is CE marked and fully automated, supplied with PLC system, suitable computer and monitor. System is supplied with a suitable extraction and system monitoring software.
