Tender description

Nottingham City Council has received Interreg NWE and Innovate UK funding to trial new technology at Eastcroft Depot. Both of these projects are aiming to develop overarching interoperable energy management software (iEMS), which will be capable of operating multiple operations and devices, and increase the efficiency in the supply of renewable energy. We will be demonstrating a system which integrates renewable energy, from Solar PV arrays, with 40 vehicle to grid (V2G) bi-directional chargers and 40 electric vehicles (EVs - mainly vans for our maintenance, energy delivery and highways teams), using the batteries to store and redistribute this energy. V2G technology allows EVs to be charged as usual, but also to feed electricity stored within their batteries back to adjacent buildings or grid, thereby facilitating a smart, bi-directional flow of energy, which meets local energy demands and reduces strain on the electricity supply grid. The aims of the project are to: • to maximise use of renewable energy in the buildings at Eastcroft and when charging the new EVs • to reduce costs by managing energy in a smart way and reducing demand during peak tariffs • to subsidise the capital cost of the units and provide ongoing financial savings using revenues generated by offering Demand Side Response and Flexibility Services. • To develop interoperable energy management software As part of this project, Nottingham City Council requests a solution for the supply and installation of 40 DC V2G charging units (which enable bidirectional flow of electricity from site to national grid) and associated equipment on their Nottingham site
Keywords: solar, battery, charger, grid, vehicle, renewable energy
