THE PROVISION OF EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES TO HRI’S RACECOURSES

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) was established by the Irish Government under the Horse and Greyhound Racing Act 2001 and the Irish Horseracing Industry Act 1994. It is a commercial semi-state body that is responsible for the administration, promotion and development of Horse Racing in Ireland. HRI Racecourse Division consists of Leopardstown Racecourse, Fairyhouse Racecourse, Navan Racecourse, Tipperary Racecourse and Leopardstown Golf Centre. The Curragh Racecourse and Cork Racecourse are associates of the Contracting Authority and may also avail of this agreement. HRI Racecourses Ltd. (the “Contracting Authority”) intends to appoint suitably qualified equine veterinary professionals to provide equine cover on the track and in the stable yard at its racecourses. This requirement for equine veterinary services has been split into four lots. Please refer to the attached document for a detailed specification Lot 1: LOT 1: THE PROVISION OF EQUINE VETERINARY SERVICES TO LEOPARDSTOWN RACECOURSE The Contracting Authority intends to appoint suitably qualified equine veterinary professionals to fulfil the following requirements and duties over the course of the framework agreements: • To provide equine cover on the track and in the stable yard on specified race-days and schooling days. • To provide an on-call service for private schooling days. • To provide diagnostic, first aid, respiratory examinations, euthanasia and other equine welfare procedures as required. • To work in conjunction with the Turf Club Veterinary officer. • A minimum of five years’ experience in a practice where at least 50% of the current case load are equines. • Have the technical resources to carry out all duties required by an equine veterinary surgeon on a racecourse. • Due to the demanding work required and potential hazards, individuals proposed must be physically able to carry out the work required. • The veterinary professional will be responsible for all health and safety elements surrounding the horse being treated All framework members admitted to the multi-party framework agreements must be members of the A.I.R.C.V.S. (Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons). This cost will not be reimbursed. Leopardstown will require three race-day vets to be present on eight race-days and two race-day vets to be present on 15 race-days. There is also a requirement for one vet to be present on approximately 2 schooling days. The annual roster will be agreed in advance with the Leopardstown Operations Manager.
