Tender description

The BIM Skills Development Services Unit is tasked with the delivery of a structured career path through the provision of lifelong accredited learning for the seafood sector. BIM has developed and delivered training programmes for over forty years and is a QQI-recognised and ISO certified provider. The training programmes offered are specifically aimed at those working across the seafood industry, with specialised training offered to the sea-fishing, aquaculture, retail and seafood processing sectors. The Skills Development Services Unit is a multi-site centre delivering training in: • The National Fisheries Colleges of Ireland (NFCI), Greencastle, Co. Donegal and Castletownbere, Co. Cork • The BIM Seafood Innovation Hub (SIH) in Clonakilty, Co Cork • External training locations • Supervised field trips to vessels, fish farms, factories, retail establishments etc. • Two mobile Coastal Training Units (CTU) The purpose of the CTU’s is to provide a range of professional training to seafood industry personnel and students, delivered, such as Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) elementary first aid, personal survival techniques, personal safety and responsibility, enhanced safety training, safety awareness and fire prevention and radio training. Traditionally the CTU programmes on the East coast are delivered through a calendar of events delivered in key fishing harbours, from Clogherhead in Louth to Dunmore East in Waterford, and into East Cork. It is envisioned that the unit may also deliver training at other locations around Ireland subject to industry demand and evolving BIM work programmes and strategy. The unit retains agility to adapt this course calendar to meet the needs of the fishing sector. The coastal training units provide these services in remote coastal locations thus minimising the down time and need to travel for students.
