Cairngorms Climate Resilient Catchments – River South Esk Brechin Channel Creation This brief outlines a proposal to restore agriculture land on the main stem of the river South Esk facilitating multiple benefits. The project will improve hydrological function by reconnecting the river and floodplain on the edge of the town of Brechin in the lower catchment. The site has potential to reduce flood risk, provide climate change resilience and improve ecological connectivity of the river corridor whilst providing increased community amenity value. The landowner will also have new opportunities to investigate commercial and community woodland creation on the site. Currently, the site is utilised by the local community, primarily for dog walking, however it has the potential to be of greater amenity value.
