Lough Derg and Lough Mask Benthic Vegetation Survey

Tender description

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) provides the legislative and policy framework for the conservation of nature and biodiversity in the Republic of Ireland. It also oversees its implementation, based on good science, with particular emphasis on the protection of habitats and species. The purpose of this request for tender is to procure a survey of Lough Derg and Lough Mask, owing to evidence that these were formerly marl lakes, e.g. Carboniferous limestone geology, high alkalinity, residual patches of degraded cyanobacterial crust and characteristic charophytes. The methods of Roden et al. (2020b), and any relevant, complementary approaches will be used. While a high degree of specialist knowledge and practical experience is required to undertake the work, tenderers are encouraged to include trainees in the project team with the aim of building capacity, particularly in snorkel-survey of benthic plants. The detailed specification of the project tasks and expected deliverables is set out in Sections 2 and 3 of the RfT document. The project will run from May to November 2022.
