Market Engagement: Upcoming ESF Skills for Growth Commissions

<p><strong>To attend this event, please email skillsforgrowth@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk for the link to join. </strong></p> <p>On Friday 18 March, two brand new Skills for Growth commissions launched via The Chest in Digitalisation in Manufacturing and Life Sciences. In the next few days, another two opportunities in hospitality will go live.</p> <p>If you&rsquo;re interested in finding out more about any of these four commissions, book onto our next market engagement session <strong>via Microsoft Teams on 31 March 2022 between 10am and 11:30am.</strong></p> <p>Please note these opportunities will be advertised to eligible lead providers via the Flexible Procurement System, but all providers are invited to the market engagement events and can form part of supply chains.</p> <p>To attend, please email skillsforgrowth@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk.</p> <p><strong><u>Digitalisation in Manufacturing</u></strong><br />&nbsp;<br />Employers in the sector have cited time as a significant barrier to training, so we&rsquo;re keen for any new training in this space to be practical and specific.<br />&nbsp;<br />Like many industries, manufacturing is undergoing a digital transformation so training should focus on awareness and familiarity of digital industrial technologies, adoption of digital industrial technologies, use of improvement and LEAN manufacturing technique and management in production environments.<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong><u>Life Sciences</u></strong><br />&nbsp;<br />This sector has shown resilience and growth throughout the pandemic with Greater Manchester playing a key role in the country&rsquo;s vaccination programme development.<br />&nbsp;<br />Employers have identified shortages at senior levels and as the demand for innovation increases, so does the need to recruit in both specialist and non-specialist roles.<br />&nbsp;<br />Projections show that many new jobs will need to be created to meet growth demand and to replace retirees. In particular, training should target lab technicians, business development managers, biochemists, bioanalysts and support roles.<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong><u>Hospitality: Strategic and Operational Skills</u></strong><br />&nbsp;<br />The hospitality industry has historically experienced a high turnover rate and employers have often recruited internationally in order to find experienced individuals.<br />&nbsp;<br />With this in mind, training in strategic and operational skills should focus on upskilling existing workforces to increase knowledge and understanding of areas including mixology and barista skills, managing challenging behaviours, conflict management/resolution, mental health awareness and first aid, drug awareness and licensing laws.<br />&nbsp;<br /><strong><u>Hospitality: Technical Hospitality Skills</u></strong><br />&nbsp;<br />Employers in hospitality are experiencing labour shortages at all levels, particularly across roles with increasing technical ability like chefs and catering staff.<br />&nbsp;<br />These roles are highly specialised so generic qualifications are not always suitable.<br />&nbsp;<br />Training in this space is expected to deliver modules of learning from Level 3+ apprenticeship standards for upskilling individuals specifically in the above roles and accreditation for each module should be provided where possible.</p> Keywords: skills, training, education, hospitality, manufacturing, digital
