South Gloucestershire Council is in the South West of England and its children's services were judged as 'Requires Improvement' across the board in May 2019. Ofsted carried out a focused visit on 09 November 2021 and inspectors found that the pace of improvement at the front door since their inspection in 2019 had been too slow and that, in some areas of practice, the quality of work had deteriorated. Ofsted identified two areas for priority action (APAs): 1. the effectiveness and timeliness with which risks to children are assessed and with which action is taken to address known risks. 2. the effectiveness of senior leaders in achieving timely and consistent improvement in the quality and impact of social work practice at the front door. To support and challenge the authority to improve its children's services, linked to the identified APAs but also more widely, the Department intends to deploy improvement advisor support for a period of up to 12 months.
