Tender description

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, as lead partner are responsible for the delivery of the PEACE IV Local Authority Action Plan – Addressing Community Tensions through dialogue, mediation & conflict resolution, Shared Culture and Language, which will promote good relations, peace and reconciliation in the local area, focusing on three key needs in the district: • To create links with other language communities on these islands, allowing participants from diverse political perspectives to find common ground through discussion of language and shared cultural interests in a positive, neutral environment. • To foster relationships between groups from diverse cultural backgrounds through exploring linguistic and cultural connections. • To develop a framework for future projects between groups from different traditions and conflicting political opinions. The above needs have been established through discussions with community members who wish to be able to share and celebrate their culture in a positive environment, while also having the opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultural backgrounds and traditions which they would not normally have had the chance to explore. The Council is seeking to appoint a competent facilitator to manage a cross-community project on Shared Culture and language as part of Addressing Community Tensions through dialogue, mediation & conflict resolution under the Building Positive Relations theme. This programme is aimed at providing a positive shared experience about the history of language and culture in the Council District, as well as engaging and providing information pertaining to other communities where there are similarities and differences on the topic of Shared Language and Culture.
