Provision of Falls Prevention Service

Tender description

The Falls Prevention service is commissioned in Redbridge as evidence demonstrates that people aged 65 years and older are at an increased risk of falling, with 30% of people over the age of 65 and 50% of people over the age of 80 falling at least once a year. Falls prevention services aim to reduce people’s chance of falling by tackling risk factors, improving strength and balance allowing people to remain well and live independently at home. CCG data indicates that there is a huge cost to the health and care system because of falls activity in Accident and Emergency admissions, resulting in hospital stays and long-term care packages. Data for Queens and King Georges hospital for February to June 2020 has highlighted falls as one of the top 10 reasons for ambulance conveyances in older people. Provision of Falls Prevention Service form part of early Intervention and classified under secondary prevention. These are more targeted interventions aimed at individuals who have an increased risk of developing needs, where the provision of services, may help slow down, reduce any further deterioration or prevent other needs from developing.
