Exploring opportunities to diversify land ownership and tenure

The Commission has been promoting the practical diversification of land ownership and tenure through encouraging and supporting voluntary approaches. We want to extend our capacity to provide support for voluntary approaches by working intensively with a select number of landowners to bring about practical change and to better understand the opportunities and challenges arising from diversification of ownership and tenure. Our Good Practice Programme is promoting and supporting change and good practice in the way land is owned and used in both urban and rural Scotland. Working with the Good Practice Advisory Group we have created a range of protocols, tools and guidance to encourage and enable those with an interest in land to recognise and fulfil their rights and responsibilities. We wish to engage with someone who can work closely with a number of landowners to support the practical diversification of ownership and tenure, through identification of opportunities, exploring different approaches, and engaging with experts as required. The aim of this work is to create a practical guide for diversifying land ownership and tenure, contributing to understanding of barriers, opportunities and benefits, and developing case studies to support good practice.
