Cork University Hospital (CUH) and University Hospital Kerry (UHK) wish to advise on the intention to invite proposals for the provision of a Managed Laboratory Service for Laboratory Medicine, in the areas of Biochemistry and Haematology. While the Departments of Laboratory Medicine seek to outsource the provision, management and maintenance of analytical equipment and associated consumables to a primary commercial partner, CUH and UHK will retain responsibility for the day-to-day running of the equipment and the interpretation of results generated. In the lifetime of the tender the scope of the tender may extend to the reconfiguration of other laboratories in the HSE South/South West region. These developments will be in-line with and lead by the establishment of hospital groups of which CUH and UHK are members of the South/South West group. The overall aim of this Project is the creation of a Blood Sciences Department in CUH and UHK that will deliver an improved Laboratory Medicine Service to our Patients and the greater Healthcare Community in the most efficient, cost-effective and timely manner. CUH and UHK seek to enter into a long-term partnership to develop an innovative and practical solution, which is fit for purpose and complies with extant or proposed legislation. The solution must accommodate changes in demand while facilitating changes in workforce and accommodating skill-mix. The solution should fulfill the requirements for a Lean Laboratory workflow. The successful supplier must demonstrate a continuing commitment to the development of analytical systems and a willingness to work in partnership with CUH and UHK to ensure delivery of a tailored and modern Blood Sciences Laboratory Service.
