Bennettsbridge Riverside Amenity Area & Pedestrian /Cyclist Bridge- Feasibility Study & Design Options Report

Kilkenny Leader Partnership (hereafter KLP) has identified the need to engage the services of an engineer led design team to advance a feasibility study and proposal options report for the development of a riverside amenity/amenities, assessment of existing bridge and a pedestrian/cyclist bridge that traverses over the River Nore in Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny. Currently, access to the river is poorly formed for water-based activities and the space provided for the public to enjoy engagement with this waterbody is extremely limited. The village is divided by the river and is connected via the R700 Regional Road by way of a stone arch bridge, which is a protected structure and is designated to be of regional importance. The bridge carries high volumes of traffic and has a narrow cross-section with no footpath provision. The net result of this is poor connectivity between both settlements either side of the river, along with a sense of being disjointed. The scope of the brief also stipulates the requirement of fulfilling the role PSDP along with the procurement of specialist services and all other services as prescribed to advance the scheme.
