Tender description
The Ireland Wales Interreg funded STREAM project seeks to develop and deploy a suite of sensor technologies for the efficient and effective monitoring of the impacts of climate change on coastal communities in the Southern and Eastern regions of Ireland and West Wales. The project seeks to engage and collaborate with stakeholders in the cross-border region to maximise the impact of the project. Communication of the project deliverables include workshops and summer schools, online initiatives include report cards, a website and social media campaign. STREAM seeks to innovate in ICT communications and data presentation through the development of an online portal and communications network. Sensor innovations include advanced optical and printed sensors for coastal monitoring. Additional innovations include a smart-pump to monitor Harmful Algal Blooms for the presence of non-native toxins. Micro-meteorological investigations supported by the innovative deployment of radar stations and weather stations provide up to date weather information to coastal communities while also providing the meteorological information to support the development of a climate change tool kit. A key aspect of this work is the development of nanostructured sensors for the monitoring of marine toxins. These sensors are fabricated using a resist based photolithography technique termed Displacement Talbot Photolithography followed by gold coating and an appropriate lift-off technique. Descumming of residual resist post-development and prior to metallisation is an important aspect of the fabrication method. Additionally ashing of photoresist may also be required to generate an optimal sensor. The project is seeking to procure a plasma cleaner/etcher to support the fabrication of the nanostructured sensors. We also require a soft plasma capability to activate surfaces for improved adhesion of organic inks leading to the development of printed sensors.
