Tamar Valley AONB NEIRF Project - Making the Case for Investment in the Tamar Valley’s Nature Based Services

12-month (October 2021-Oct 2022) time-limited project utilising Defra NEIRF Funding. To calculate the unit value of priority nature-based goods and services at four sites in the Tamar Valley AONB, including; 1.Two key focus areas with active projects: Calstock and South Hooe – sites of intertidal habitat restoration and associated environmental & social benefits, delivered by the Environment Agency in collaboration with the Tamar Valley AONB and partners. Two riverine project sites with strong potential for further habitat restoration and benefits, with clear partnership contacts: Wacker Quay and Haye Farm 2.To market test the attractiveness of investment in these nature-based assets, goods and services, with regional and national businesses with whom the AONB and partners have good existing relationships. 3. To develop a set of template contracts to enable investment in defined nature-based assets, goods and services and to define the financial mechanism for a return on that investment. 4. Using these case studies, the project will aim to establish a flexible model enabling this approach to be adapted, scaled and applied across the Tamar Valley AONB & the wider catchment, promoting & delivering additional private investment in the natural environment of this protected landscape.
