Tender description
A key requirement of the UK Royal Navy (RN) is the use of classification societies to assure safe design and maintenance of design intent so that ships remain ‘in class’, to retain their Naval Authority (NA) certification which acts as a mandatory requirement to sail. Maintaining a vessel in class is therefore a key concern for the NA, and to this end, annual surveys are undertaken by naval architects on most MOD Naval Ships (with exceptions for submarines, mine countermeasure vessels, and some boats under 24m in length) to comply with the statutory, regulatory and MOD standards for ship safety of RN vessels, whilst ensuring on-going operability.
