Cyanotoxins in Raw Surface Waters

Tender description

The aims of this project are to determine the scientific relevance of the prescribed standard for Microcystin-LR in the revised Drinking Water Directive[1], its occurrence in raw surface waters, treated water concentrations, risks to water quality, and the suitability of analysis methods for cyanotoxin monitoring. In addition, the project will review literature to determine a selection of cyanotoxins to monitor for their prevalence in raw surface waters at a number of sites in England & Wales to determine whether there is a need for regulatory standards for a range of cyanotoxins, only Microcystin-LR, or whether guideline values are sufficient. Sites for the monitoring phase of this project will be selected based on the literature review findings. Evaluation of cyanotoxin monitoring data from treated water samples should also be collected and analysed to inform of any water quality risk.
