Tender description
Reducing crime remains the highest priority of this Government and to do this we need to reduce the rate of reoffending. Reintegration into society plays a big part in a former prisoner’s desistance from crime. However, people leaving prison often face a number of challenges, which can reduce the extent to which they are able to effectively reintegrate into society on release. This can lead to a cycle of reoffending, which comes at a significant cost to individuals and to society as a whole. To reduce crime and the damage it causes, we must recognise that reoffending is a complex challenge which requires collaboration across government, and across different sectors at a local and national level. The COVID-19 pandemic has further shone a light on the depth of this challenge. Local public and third sector organisations have undertaken an incredible amount of work to come together during this unprecedented time. The importance of working together has never been clearer, and it is imperative that momentum is not lost. The solutions to many of the issues facing prison leavers are specific to their local area. Reducing reoffending therefore requires a tailored approach that accounts for the local context and builds on the expertise and experience of local leaders. The Local Leadership and Integration Fund invites local leaders from across public and third sector organisations to make joint proposals which aim to improve the join up of services for people leaving prison, and to test genuinely innovative interventions that steer prison leavers away from reoffending. The funded partnerships will enable us to learn more about what works to reduce reoffending at a local level and find new approaches to improve the outcomes of prison leavers, which in time can be scaled up and help shape future policy. We welcome your interest.
