Market Soundings for the Operation of Shanganagh Crematorium

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) wishes to engage in a Market Soundings exercise in relation to the Operation of the Shanganagh Crematorium. The development of a crematorium at Shanaganagh has been a longstanding objective and proposal by the Council, and is included as a specific local objective in the County Development Plan: “To encourage the development of a crematorium at Shanganagh cemetery”. The proposed development at Shanganagh comprises (1) 2no. Funeral Halls connected by a Cremation Hall, a building area of c.406m2, and (2) all associated landscaping, servicing and mobility infrastructure on a site area of c. 3.71 hectares Further information is available in the document attached to this notice. Funeral Halls connected by a Cremation Hall, a building area of c.406m2, and (2) all associated landscaping, servicing and mobility infrastructure on a site area of c. 3.71 hectares The main reason for undertaking this project is to provide crematorium facilities to reduce the need for the citizens of the county to travel long distances for these facilities. There is an increasing demand for such facilities to be provided generally and there is a gap in the market in this location. To project aim is to create a high-quality crematorium within the parkland setting for end of life services that will capture the outstanding beauty of the landscape. The facility shall create unfolding experiences along a processional route and to offer solace to mourners by the spectacular views of Bray Head and the Sugarloaf Mountains to the south. Without prejudice to competition in the marketplace, the purpose of this Market Sounding will be to examine and consider the various technical and commercial options which might present themselves through a competitive tender process to be advertised in the near future.
