Spaceport Cornwall Launch System Telemetry Reception Station Development & Demonstration

Spaceport Cornwall aims to support a number of different launch service providers, and related parties, focussing on those with air launched / horizontal launch systems. The nature of those systems makes them inherently mobile. While advantageous from a flight trajectory, delivery orbit and drop zone perspective, it makes range and telemetry reception challenging, as the operating region is not fixed. Spaceport Cornwall, working with its partner Goonhilly Earth Station Limited, would like to offer launch service providers telemetry and telecommand services as part of its service offering. The telemetry services will be defined as part of other work carried out by Goonhilly (consultancy work package 1.4.1). This will result in 3 work packages for a Deployable telemetry station design, manufacture and installation: WP1.4.3 The aim of this work package is to design, manufacture and install a mobile telemetry and tracking station, which would be deployed and used as part of the telemetry solution for the pathfinder demonstration launch with the Virgin Orbit LauncherOne system. WP1.4.4 Demonstration of the ground based deployable launch vehicle telemetry reception station through the provision of launch operations support during the pathfinder demonstration launch to be conducted in 2022. Future commercialisation and exploitation report. The need exists for a deployable telemetry and tracking (plus in the future command) station, that can be sited to support launch operations. The immediate need is for a ground based deployable system, however in the future a ship-based system may also be advantageous.
