DMU29000 Repower & Pollutant Emissions Reduction Initiative Consultancy Engagement

Iarnród Éireann operates a fleet of Diesel Multiple Units referred to as DMU29000 commuter railcars. The fleet was introduced to service between 2003 and 2005 and predominantly provides services to the greater Dublin Area. The normal in-service life expectancy of the fleet is 40 years. The fleet has a maximum permitted speed of 120km/h and comprises twenty-nine 4-Car trainsets (one hundred and sixteen vehicles) which typically operate in 4-Car and 8-Car consist (2 x 4-Car consist) depending on demand and passenger service patterns. The fleet is currently maintained at the Drogheda commuter fleet maintenance facility The overall project objectives are: 1. To consult with stakeholders to develop a fit for purpose engine replacement solution (Motive Power and Electrical Power Generation) that meets the requirements of IÉ in order to optimise the remaining life cycle of the DMU29000 including improved operational efficiency, fuel savings and pollutant/emissions reduction and renewable/hybrid power options through engine replacement in compliance with Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 on requirements relating to gaseous and particulate pollutant emission limits and type-approval for internal combustion engines for non-road mobile machinery. 2. To conduct market research and identify potential supply partners, latest technology advancements, current product offerings and options to meet the needs of IÉ in optimising the remaining life cycle of the DMU29000 fleet in agreement with item 1) above. 3. Prepare of a specification in order to undertake a PQQ, ITT and ultimate award of contract to a suitable supply partner to deliver a solution
