Water resource constraints in Southern Water’s Hampshire region mean that we are facing a shortfall in water supply when the weather is dry. Alongside various measures such as catchment management, leakage reduction and water efficiency initiatives, we need to deliver new sources of water for the region, including a new strategic resource option to meet a large proportion of the shortfall in water supply. Our current preferred strategy includes the provision of a desalination plant located near Southampton but we are also assessing other alternatives to ensure we are ultimately taking a sustainable and deliverable solution through the consenting process and on to delivery. This tender is to obtain Planning and Development Consent Order (DCO) Support Services to provide Southern Water with an effective and efficient town planning capability to lead the strategy and delivery of a successful consent for the project. The services will provide the required expert planning interface, support and advice to the programme and project work streams to achieve consent, including (but not limited to) management of the process and production of the deliverables for both the consent pre-application and examination stages.
