Scottish Trunk Road Network South West - Consultant Design check

Tender description

Amey is seeking to appoint an experienced consultant to undertake design checks on upgrade /refurbishment works on trunk road structures. These will include - category III design checks and - category II design checks on larger projects. The design checker will be required to ensure designs are in accordance with current standards, ensure the structure and its elements are durable, designed and detailed to have sufficient strength, reliability and serve its purpose without any undue damage or deformation, and is safe to build and operate. The scope of works will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the activities listed below: - a) Review, comment and sign off the Approval in Principle (AIP) b) Review ground and site investigation reports, survey data, buried service details, outlined designs etc to understand existing site and ground conditions. Use the resulting information to agree ground parameters and durability design criteria etc with the Designer. c) Develop appropriate structure analysis model, load extract and combine results in accordance with the limit states and standards governing the design. d) Ensure designs are in accordance with relevant standards and departures from standards have been prepared and agreed where necessary. e) Review of specifications and design tender packages/contract documents for larger scale projects. f) Liaise with Designer at regular interval to compare and align design parameters. g) Review on draft construction drawings and bar bending schedules, where applicable. h) Prepare design check certificate according to CG 300 Appendix I and sign off. Structures may include bridges, overhead sign gantries, retaining walls, footbridges and high mast lighting columns.
