Tender description

To set up the an equine intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) facility in Ireland Interest in the use of assisted reproduction technologies such as ovum pick up (OPU) and ICSI has increased dramatically worldwide in the last few years, with over 2000 procedures being performed annually across Europe. The Irish Sport horse industry contributes over €816 million to the economy per year, the biggest sector of which is breeding. However, there is no facility in Ireland with the capability to either offer these advanced assisted equine reproduction services commercially or carry out research in the area. As such, Irish breeders wishing to avail of this technology currently transport their mares overseas and Ireland is not represented in the international research community.
