NCF Nature for Climate Peatland Discovery Grant Scheme

GRANT OPPORTUNITY Discovery Grants fund work to unlock barriers to peatland restoration in order to prepare projects to apply for Restoration Grants in future rounds. It is expected that if you receive a Discovery Grant, you will bid in one of the two remaining Restoration Grant rounds. Discovery Grants can cover up to 100% of costs. Peatland restoration includes works to raise the water table or reinstate peat-forming vegetation. Barriers to restoration may be from any aspect of a project, such as: • the physical and historic nature of peatland sites NCPGS Discovery Grant Guidance 2 of 10 • partnership working • development and securing of private finance This may include, but is not limited to, funding to: • build capacity and capability in nascent peat partnerships • develop new peat partnerships in locations where there are none established • engage new partners or landowners • explore opportunities for private investment funding • develop site understanding, including baseline monitoring, hydrological and ecological surveys, or historic environment assessments. There will be two rounds of bidding for the Discovery Grant. Applications for the first round will open on 7th July 2021 for 8 weeks and close on 1st September 2021. Discovery Grants awarded in 2021 can be offered until the end of March 2023. This can be used to prepare projects for Restoration Grant applications in either 2022 and/or 2023. The second round of Restoration Grant applications is likely to open in early 2022.
